As per the format of this competition, only one woman can win the title of Miss Universe and this lucky woman is Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters (Miss South Africa). Miss Jamaica Davina Bennett and Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez were second and third runner-up respectively. Miss Jamaica 2nd runner-up Davina Bennet 21-year old is pursuing her degree at West Indies University in marketing. 22-year old Miss Colombia Laura Gonzalez is a model and actress in Colombia.
The beauty of 2017, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters belongs to South Africa. She is the 2nd beauty pageant titleholder from South Africa. After the coronation, commenters flooded Twitter with tweets that the beauty queen 2017 has an incredible similarity with Zuleyka Rivera (Miss Universe 2006 from Puerto Rico). 22 years old Nel-Peters has a bachelor’s degree in business management from North-West University. She is fluent in Afrikaans and English. Along with this title, the 22-year old model will get a good salary, a luxury apartment in New York for 1 year.
During a segment of Miss Universe, she revealed that she is interested to use her self-defense training to help other women. This passion for self-defense stems from an incident when she had carjacked a month post she won the crown of Miss South Africa. After handing over her car keys, she was forced into the car by carjackers. She gave him a solid punch in the throat and manage to escape and get aid.
As per Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, HIV AIDS is a big problem in South Africa and she is looking forward to advocating this problem. Fergie (Grammy Award winner) performed her latest song “A Little Work” while contestants flaunt their beauty on the stage in gorgeous evening gowns.
